Vikash Gayah Winner of the 2011-2012 UCTC Student of the Year Award

December 5, 2011—Vikash Gayah has been named the 2011-2012 UCTC Outstanding Student of the Year, UCTC Director Robert Cervero announced.

Gayah is a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley. He was nominated by Carlos Daganzo, professor of civil and environmental engineering. His dissertation work focuses on the dynamics of traffic networks and operations.

Gayah currently has eight journal publications, including articles in Transportation Research Parts B and C, Transportation Research Record and the Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems. He also has been a graduate student instructor for three graduate courses: Public Transportation Systems, Logistics Systems Analysis and Highway Traffic Operations. Gayah also has been active on campus. He served as both the president and vice president of the Transportation Graduate Student Organizing Committee at UC Berkeley, was a member of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s curriculum committee and helped to organize the 17th annual UCTC student conference at UC Berkeley. His dissertation is titled, "The aggregate effect of turns on urban traffic networks."

As part of his UCTC award, Gayah joiedn other Student of the Year recipients from university transportation centers across the U.S. at a ceremony in January immediately before the annual TRB meeting, Jan. 22-26, in Washington, D.C.
