The University of California Transportation Center invited proposals from University of California faculty for research during academic year 2008-2009. Research proposals were welcomed in any discipline related to the Center's theme, "Transportation Systems Analysis and Policy." Projects were selected on the basis of outside peer review.

Project Milestones and Start/End Dates. In 2008-2009 UCTC research grants have start dates of August 1, 2008 and end date of July 31, 2009.

Student Involvement in Research Projects. All research grants are required to support one or two student researchers for the academic year. Student researchers typically are graduate students completing either a Masters or a PhD degree program specializing in transportation studies.

Dissertation Research Grants. Dissertation research grants are awarded to graduate students writing a PhD dissertation on a topic related to transportation systems analysis and policy. Up to 10 awards a year are made on the basis of peer review, and recipients are required to submit their dissertation to the Center.

Technology Transfer Activities. Researchers are encouraged to participate in at least one professional meeting to present project research results. All grant recipients are required to make working papers, reports, and journal articles resulting from their research available to the Center for public dissemination.
