Dissertation Grants

UCTC awarded 6 doctoral dissertation grants for 2009-2010.

Doctoral Dissertation Grant Applications
Students at any campus of the University of California are eligible (except UC Davis, which has a separate UTC.) The dissertation research must be on topics with direct relevance to U.S. surface transportation, with a focus on systems analysis and policy. Applicants must have advanced to candidacy for the PhD. degree prior to the application deadline. Dissertations are expected to be completed no later than two years following the receipt of the dissertation grant; please do not apply for the grant if you are not able to comply with the two year completion schedule.

Eligibility

Both US and international students may apply for dissertation grants. For US citizens and permanent residents, dissertation fellowships will be established and the funds may be used for any purpose allowable by the students’ home campus. International students are not eligible for fellowships but may be awarded dissertation projects; they will be asked to submit budgets for the expenditure of the dissertation project funds and must adhere to the approved budgets. Budgets may cover nonresident tuition, in-state fees, salaries, benefits, and research expenses including travel.

Dissertation grant application deadlines are THE FIRST MONDAY OF NOVEMBER AND THE FIRST MONDAY OF APRIL of each year. Funds will be provided in the Winter / Spring term for November awards, and in the early fall for April awards.
